Something Borrowed

This image created by Lalla Essaydi speaks to me in ways in which the body is translated. These photographs depict a young woman laid so peacefully across a bed draped in bullet casings. Her subject becomes part of this decorated scene. The subjects skin is drawn on and dressed in clothing corresponding to the area being photographed. The photograph is dense with immense detail and complicated patterns. As if Lalla was to hand place and decide/create each tiny tiny section herself in order to create this image.  As amused as I am by the detail of this image, I’m particularly fascinated by the triptych technique she uses.  I intend on continuing to use large format with this triptych method. I hope to take after Lalla in dividing the human body into three different forms.
